Sometime in the early '80's we were showing a fair down in the Florida Keys when one day this nice looking young couple pull up in a convertible and the guy yells, "I'll give you fifty bucks if you let us get on that elephant!'' my immediate response was, "Anna May down.....!"
Some years later we were playing the Detroit Shrine date, while doing the elephant ride at intermission I hear this voice "Is that the elephant I paid fifty bucks to ride?"....Didn't remember the guy but I did the $50....thus I met Bobby Moore.
After the show he and Betsy took us out to his Sea Food Restaurant and during the course of the evening he asked about the possibility of owning his own elephant and I gave my standard reply, "I wouldn't wish an elephant on my worst enemy!"
To my amazement it wasn't long before I got a call, "I got a connection on some elephants, do you know a good trainer?......I got him in touch with Smokey.

Once the subject of our previous meeting arose and Betsy said that it was cold and snowing in Detroit and Bobby picked her up and just started driving,she asked where they were going and Bobby said, "South until I get thawed out!"
Evidently it took until Marathon, Florida to meet that requirement.
