Disaster Strikes The Big Top!

Scanning this morning's Blog brought back an incident that was quite a sensation at the time. After the Dailey Show folded Butch Cohn came over to the Kelly-Miller Show and worked in the office. In those days the routine was absolute, 5:00 AM you were awakened by someone marauding the lot with a cowbell. Each driver would then pass by the cook house, pick up his coffee, doughnut and route slip then start up his truck and wait. Shortly Kelly would arrive and position himself out front then point at each vehicle in the order they should leave. After everyone had left he would then return to his living quarters (seen above) and be the last one off the lot. One morning as he was leaving, a car suddenly blocked the gate and several men jumped out, jerked from the cab and after a brief pistol whipping, forced him inside and open the safe containing the previous days proceeds. Didn't take long for the Police to realize it was an inside job, the felons were soon apprehended and Cohn fingered as the accomplice.  Being the kind of people they were, the Millers refused to press charges against him.
