A cigar store Indian makes an appearance in Cecil B.
DeMille’s epic 1939 western Union Pacific. Here Brian Donlevy and Henry Kolker “meet by
coincidence” to plot on how best to hinder railroad construction for their own
profit.

Parley Baer is well-known to viewers here. Little is known of his family. His brother, Maury, began as a gandy dancer for Union Pacific and rose to become one of their top Vice Presidents. From the beginning, he bought stock in the railroad, and so advised his family. Parley thus bought in early also, and Union Pacific stock paid off well for him.
From gandy dancer to a top vp, wow!
