"Ruth" was Al G. Barnes first elephant purchased in 1908, the following year he added "Babe" and "Jewel" all of whom remained together for the next 50 years with Barnes, Barnes-Floto and RBBB.
When John Ringling purchased the Corp. they found that several of the shows had elephants with the same name hence Big Ruth....Little Ruth.....etc.
I was at the Sarasota Quarters the winter of 1956-57 when Babe died but Ruth remained around quite a while longer with Eddie Billiti's Shopping Center Show 1958-65 pulling a ride cart.
He sold her to Puerto Rico in 1966.

Buckles,
Could you reveal what an elephant might sell for back in the 50-60's vs. today?
