Why am I thinking "Betty Grable"?

We older guys all know why and what a wonderful thought!

After this pose, in a solo follow spot, Merle Evans played her off down the track. Kenny Dodd and I talked about this, and concluded we had never seen another Ringling act given this honor.

Hello. Over the years I've posted things about Ringling Bros. and my time in Sarasota, Englewood, Venice...at just the right time. I saw Vicky Unus not only perform, but watched many practices of her (which was even cooler) after school. I had school friends who had after school jobs cleaning cages and also my mother knew several in the circus business. We'd just go to the rehearsals. I'd just moved to Fla. in 1962, I was mesmerized and didn't even know how famous the Unus family was. But there she'd be, dressed in regular clothes, go up the rope and do stunning flips in the rings, soar through the air, and she looked just a little older than me. I got fairly used to the circus exposure...and wound up as a super (circus audience kid) in the TV series with Jack Palance, 1963, Greatest Show on Earth (Desilu?). I was heart broken when Ringlings closed, I took my 6-year-old grandchild to her first and last Ringling Brothers Circus performance and it was extremely sad for the entire crowd. Thanks.
