Christ! Nine performances in three days, ass deep in snow......
This date has been around forever. I saw Hamid there many years ago and Hanne3ford has been there for many moons. Surprising i9t is not a Shrine or other sposored date but packs em in with always a great show. pretty impressive.
Thanks Paul for these great shots
I guess Barry was trying to pay
for his trip from Europe to be
on hand to support Paul Binder
at the "Ring Of Fame" event
Is he doing the season or just
this (or a few dates)
Boy oh boy Paul you'll do just
about anything to avoid a dinner
with me in Newark or New York
Hi Bill,
I was at the 6:PM Saturday performance. It had started to snow about four in the afternoon. We made it there though. Had a great time.
I think because of the weather and the road conditions at the time the attendance was held down for that performance.
I had a smile when Ringmaster Billy Martin introduced Brunon Blazak's cage act as the "Rage In The Cage". I don't know if Billy Martin was referring to Brunon or his tigers. :-)
I never tire of watching Grandma, Barry Lubin. One of my favorite Grandma "sticks" was the Big Apple Olympics...she held the record. If you remember it, then you know what I am talking about.
Before the Hamid-Morton Shrine Circus and the Hanneford Circus the Pan-American Circus would play the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
There was one year when the County Center hosted both Hamid-Morton and the Hanneford Circus.
I saw Guy Gossing with his tigers, and the Carillo Brothers high wire act preform with the Pan-American Circus.
The first time I saw Wade Burck perform was at the County Center with the Hamid-Morton Shrine Circus. He was doing his tribute to Gunther Gebel-Williams, complete with blonde hair.
Maybe in the future when the Hanneford Circus returns to the County Center I think it might be fun to meet some of the Blogs readers and contributors. Just a thought.
Henry
The White Plains date has an interesting past.
Way back it was a Pollack date and then it went to Don Francisico's Pan American Circus. I worked for Don (Frank Mijares, Sr.) at various times in the 70s. I started when I was still in high school, in the early 70s.
Don had the date in 74; Tommy Hanneford had it in 75 and then Don had it in 76 and Hannefords in 77 to present.
The local promotor was Ed Chiccolilni (sp?) and he was the gentleman who brought in the circus, consumers shows and touring musical groups. His company was called Chick Productions.
Way back I remember that IBM would buy out a Saturday morning show for their employees.
White Plains was always a "big date" because it is located in one of metropolitan New York's most densely populated and affluent areas.
Ticket prices listed on the advert are $25 and $32.
