My late father who was working as a radio operator and ship's purser on a small coastal freighter. The ship had docked in Los Angeles and was unloading and loading cargo at the time of its filming. He saw an ad in the paper for help wanted. So not having anything to do that day, he went to the studio and was paid $5 and a free lunch for appearing in this silent version of Ben Hur. He was one of hundreds of Roman soldiers. He told me that he went to see the film a couple of times in an effort to see if he could spot himself in it. Never could and of course there is the possibility the scenes he was in ended up on the film editor's floor. And so ended his professional career in the movies.

These 1st 2 images were obviously
hand colored by "Babe Orton"
which makes them more valuable
