From Grace Swank-Davis #1

I bought these photos on EBay. The seller said his father took them in 1938 but of course I know that they were taken in 1947 as that was the year Big Bob Stevens got the punks and Bob had Chevrolet as his sponsor. Also Aunt Peggy & Uncle Mack were married that year & ‘47 was the year I was born. Aunt Billie Schuller says that Uncle Mack is the man in the one photo.

These four were bought in 1946 for $5000 each, being between 3 and 5 years of age. They were imported by Harry Rimberg of the International Import and Export Co. in New York. The four punks arrived in the Boston, MA. port. The first three elephants arrived on October 26, 1946 with the other three elephants arriving on October 30, 1946. Of this second delivery, one had died and one was sold to Will Hill with the other four going to Bob Stevens.

The article goes on to say that Mac McDonald was in Boston to be there upon their arrival.

This is reported in the Billboard on Nov. 9, 1946 on page 51.

They were not bottle babies, so Mac had his hands gfull with some pretty good siz babies, but he did a great job. I recall one trick was all four did a hind leg sytand and immediately went into a head stand. pretty good stuff. for a finish they all mounted the roing curb and vigeorishly shook their heas 9in salute.
