Harold Ward told me that when they did the passing leaps in their triple wide act, the flyer in the center went first and upon completion the flyers on the outside left the board as the center flyer returned.
Thus lessening the possibility of flyers falling into the net and bouncing into each other.

Steve Gossard may correct me here, but I believe the first triple-wide flying act over here were the Ward-Bell Flyers. This is likely the act Harold Ward described to Buckles. I was grateful to talk of this act to Gus Bell himself, at his Summertop Circus, in Dallas, in '76. That show, incidentally, starred Emmett Kelly, Karl Wallenda guesting on the Los Obandos high wire, Merle Evans on the bandstand, and Parley Baer running things as Ringmaster/Announcer.
