I hadn't realized that 40 years had elapsed (Feb. 3, 1974) since we moved the Circus World elephant herd from Venice up to the Park until Gary Hill reminded me.
Since then he has been to searching back on the Blog for pictures of that event with little luck so I'll rehash this set.
Gary, do you remember the morning we were scheduled to leave? Chappie showed up with a film crew to promote the Park's opening.
The Red Show was in rehearsal for their 2nd year tour so he rounded up Lou Jacobs, the Ringmaster, a few show girls, some lead stock, some local citizenry and about a half dozen of our elephants, that's Shannon sitting up front on Anna May.
Was glad to get it wrapped up so we could get off the lot, I had been there since mid November.
Some time later I asked Chappie how the tape had turned out and he said the Park people were dissatisfied and threw it away.

Your term "The Park People" was
not what many of us referred to
them as but most versions can't
be published here
They were certainly not "of us"
During early construction Allen
Bloom brought a group of selected
staff up to the site to explain
how Irvin was depressed by Mattel
taking the entire park planning
away from him & how different it
was going to be from his visions
Only several years later when the
park was heading for the sewers
did they come to him for help
The money however was all spent
by that time so little could be
done other than some production
values & show direction
Buckles:
Just curious...
Do you have any photos of the first elephant weigh-in at the truck stop across from CW on Hwy 27???
:-)
Cindy Potter
Quite a few but they are intermingled.
How many of those damn things did we do?
Cindy I have a good picture of the weigh in from 76-77? But need my son to help me find it and put it here..:)Peggy looked like she was pulling down on a switch of sorts.. the funny thing is that she is the old other elephant in the herd that did that one time except Anna May?
THANKS Buckles for the Look Back!! I enjoyed the days in Quarters watching you put the acts together and was very Greatful to you for supporting my leaving to go to Great Adventure. You told me to Go and that I Always had a spot on your crew...That Men't more to me that you will ever know.Thank You for being a Mentor to me and so many others...there isn't a day that goes by that I haven't used the skills I learned watching you.
The Orlando Sentinel had Shannon in AnnaMay's trunk on the front page of the paper the next day! (The first one, in 1974...).
How time flies!!!
:-)
Cindy
Cindy, this year when the GSOE came to Orlando, I don't even thing there was a picture of the walk from the train. Different times for sure.
