MGM Lion #1 (From Bob Cline)

The Circus Historical Society has been given the Conover Photographic collection to digitize for presrvation and sharing with the world. Here are three photos of the early MGM Lion's vehicles. They appear to be MGM press photos but these are just the negatives and no prints were included of these.

CHS might have the pictures but I'd like to see them match the BUCKLES BLOG bullshit stories!

When I was a kid in say 1944, The truck with whichever Leo was on duty at the time, called in Atlanta and was spotted on the street in front of the Loew's Grande Theater which played MGM's first run movies here.

Alas, I did not get down to see him. But I recall the newspaper hoopla.

In 1934 MGM also had a similar truck for the Tarzan rhino, Mary, which went in advance of the film which featured her. That was Tarzan and His Mate. I have never seen a good photo of it though there is bound to be one somewhere out there.
