The Bailey Bros. elephants later became the Oscar Cristiani Elephants.
Probably "Babe".

The Bailey show elephants that eventually went to Oscar Cristiani were Christy, Carrie, Babe and Shirley.
(Emma was added later)
The Pete & Norma Five from the Dailey Show were Mary, Maude, Norma, Bessie and Konti.

ultimate herd & when

"Emma" joined the Cristiani show in 1955 and was named after Mama Cristiani.
That brought the act up to 5 and it remained so as long as the act existed.

The largest circus I have ever produced included the Oscar Crisiani Elephant, then owned by daughter Carin and presented by her son Brian French.

Those in the New York City area will appreciate the "who you know" relationships behind the scenes in city government.

It was the Belmont Race Track Festival, a three day extravaganza in Floral Park, Queens County that is part of New York City.

In a nutshell, I was contracted by the race track's public relations firm. I asked Brian to face the picket line toward the main road. There was a tall iron fence that surrounded the entire property.

The elephants could be seen and created quite a commotion with the locals.

Well, as expected the traffic slowed to a near halt and the local residents were lined up in front of the fence. There had to be 200-300 people, easy.

Several hours later a couple of policeman told me that the elephants had to be moved immediately because they were creating a public nuisance.

I went to the pr representative who went to the main office of Belmont Race Track and returned shortly and said, "The office made a phone call, you won't have any problems with the elephants.

For the next four days we never saw another policeman.

On another note, Brian did a great job and was a pleasure to work with.

This had to be 20 years ago.

Were there still 5 when Carin

inherited them I only remember 4

Oscar's act was booked on the RBBB So. American Unit in 1961 and "Christy" died during the return voyage.

It was 4 at the time.

I had never worked with the Cristiani elephants and asked Buckles if there were any trouble makers in that group.

He said I wouldn't have any problems, they were all fine. He gave them 2 thumbs up.

How's that for an endorsement?

Buckles might have been at the Catskill Game Farm at the time.

Actually the herd in So. America in 1961 was more impressive than the RBBB unit stateside.
Six from Tony Diano that included two Africans and the future "King Tusk".
The Oscar Cristani five.
Three surplus Ringling elephants "Minyak", "Sabu" and "Padmuh".
Plus Eloise Berchtold and her male African elephant "Koa".
For a total of 15.

This is sad.
Buckles, John Herriott, maybe Chic and maybe myself could talk about all these photos at the Gibsonton Showmen's Circus later this afternoon.
Yet, we send notes on the blog like school kids do in class behind the teacher's back.

I believe you meant this to be

better than it sounds Mike & it's

very nice of you to pitch this

worthwhile Club's endeavor but

we "schoolkids" don't consider

these efforts frivolously & not

sad in the least

Chic -

No, no, no.
Maybe I should have said, "This is funny".
The blog is great and as I have said to Buckles and John several time I learn so much about this business from the comments.
I enjoy everyone's postings and didn't mean my posting to be negative.
So, l look forward to my next lesson.
Hope to see you soon.

We saw the circus in G town yesterday. A very good show with lots of good cts. I would say its one of their best shows over the years. Nice day and a great job by Lee Stevens and his staff. Walker bros. tent and equipment are very nice.

PS. Charlie Sclarbaum had a sizeable complete circus band and it was just great. Too bad when there is a circus band and very knowledgable maestro that some acts still use recorded and as usual at every turn there were noticeable gliches.
By the way I had a W-7 inj the bar and MR a plain coke. Cost 2.50.

It seems that the words and use of "jackpots" was created by "Keeazarnies" and "Cirkees" and without a doubt Gtown is the Headquarters. I miss ed great showguy and friend Jim Elliot. Heard he is hustling the state conventions. Bus before pleasure.

Hey you guys, I'm sad. This was supposed to be "...my party, so I'll cry if I want to!"

There I go, trying to be facetious again.
