From Eric Beheim #1

Some of you probably remember that Mascot Pictures (which later became Republic Pictures) used a tiger for its logo/trademark. The logo tiger was supposedly one of Clyde Beatty’s cats, filmed during the production of Beatty’s serial THE LOST JUNGLE. This logo was used at the beginning of each of the 12 chapters of Gene Autry’s 1935 starring serial THE PHANTOM EMPIRE.
At the fade-in, the tiger is seen on top of a world globe.

Mascot plus many other poverty row film companies became Republic because they could not pay there film processing and printing as Rebublic was Consolidated film Industries.
