Although Alexander Calder is best
known for his tremendous outdoor
metal sculptures & his delicate
hanging mobiles like the 1 that
dominates the entry hall of the
East Wing of the National Gallery
in DC he was a nearly fanatical
circus fan & created tons of both
models & paintings that became
known as "Sandy's Circus"
I'll assemble a set of images
Howard and Mary Rower were delightful people. I believe thay are i8n the mbig tent in the sky.
John: Yes, Howard and Mary are both now "up there", as is Alan Slifka.
Howard once casually mentioned to me that he had a vast holdings in Australia heavily populated by camels.
Maybe that's why he and Bobby Gibbs were such close buddies.
While showing the New York area Bobby would would let him drive Dave Hale's camel pickup/trailer unit from lot to lot.
He once put in Circus Report "Howard Rower drives the Big Rigs with the Big Apple Circus!"
