Didn't a few of these end up on
the Beatty herd
I do recall a Mary Maude & Konti
Didn't Steve have the Beatty herd
before Rex
Chic Steve came over with the "Norma Davenport five" in 1960, i e Mary, Maude, Bessie, Konti (for some reason called Bonnie for awhile) and Norma.
By 62 or 63 Bessie & Norma were
either gone or changed names
All five of these were juggled around between Beatty-Cole, King Bros and Sells & Gray. Most of them eventually came back to B-C; I think all but Mary who died while with King and Norma who was on several shows after S&G and never came back to B-C.
Two elephants named "Alice" and "Mona" were given to the Norfolk Zoo in Norfolk VA, (now called the Virginia Zoo). Mona died about 1976 and Alice about 1978. Are they the ones pictured here?
Don Bloomer
Alice had only one eye. She never performed but was a good work elephant. Tough to get around and bad if you approached her blind side. Maybe Buckles knows where she came from.
She came from Benson's Animal Farm.
Steve Fanning was a cousin of my mother. I know relatively little about his career; your blog is the best source I have found. I would be interested in knowing more. kendoran@charter.net
