In his expanded version (which measures about 4 ½ feet by 11 feet), von Wagner foreshadowed CinemaScope and other wide-screen film formats. Incidentally, the original of this expanded version is now on display at the Manchester Art Gallery in Manchester, England.
Another painting exhibited at the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893 was PSYCHE AT NATURE’S MIRROR, showing a goddess from Greek mythology kneeling on a rock and looking down at her reflection in a pool of water. It was subsequently purchased by the White Rock Beverage Company and became White Rock’s trademark in 1894. Although greatly modified over the years, “Psyche” is still being used as the White Rock trademark.
