The spacing of the center poles
is similar to when Roland had the
Vargas top butchered to become a
1 ring format operation in 91-92
I wonder the dimensions of this
top with only 1 set of quarters
I recall from other photos that
the quarters are nicely decorated
in a barber pole stripe pattern
The dimensions of the Williams big top were 68m in length and 40m in width. (223x131 ft). The picture here was slightly "photoshopped" back in the days as it was actually a photo of the Spanischer Nationalcircus (name of the Williams show from 1962-66) with the 4 round poles. In 1967/68 the Williams show had 4 lattice poles.
Thanks Marco for these dimensions
They make perfect sense to me
We would likely call those newer
"lattice" poles "truss masts" as
used in most current European 1
ring tops like Canobio
The word mast like so many other
rigging terms dates back to early
seagoing nomenclature & many are
still used in circus & theater
Masts also known as king poles
