To John Herriott

How about this herd?
Titled Howes Great London 1921.
If correct this was one of the Corp. units moving on 25 cars and managed by Danny Odom.
Elephants would be "Babe", "Mary", "Katy", "Toto", "Wallace Lizzie", "Bughouse Alice" and "Nellie Lockhart" under the supervision of Joe Metcalf.
Quite a bit of hardware involved and no doubt an exciting season.

The little tusker must be Toto. Didn't your dad buy him just before he died? I mean just before Toto died, not the Colonel.

Nellie Lockhart was accidentally killed in 1922 while being transferred from Tupelo to Amory Ms. The local newspaper said the Gollmar Circus had sold her to the Clark Circus, and while she was being delivered, she escaped, became mired in a slough, and her neck was broken in the attempt to free her. In the article, she was referred to as Jumbo.

Interesting article.
My notes say more or less the same thing:
"1922 sold to Floyd and Howard King.
Broke away while being transported at Tupelo, Miss. then became mired in mud and died of exposure."
