1916 Greater Sheesley Shows #1

My Dad wrote on the back of this set of pictures:
"Greater Sheesley Shows 1916, Hattiesburg, Miss."

The Woodcock's had a connection with Hattiesburg, maybe a second home, he would have been 12 at the time and might have taken these himself.
I'm a bit foggy this morning but I seem to recall some Rep Show pix also taken there.

Hi Buckles, Hope you are back feeling better now. Just wanted to let everyone know that Brenton Bullen has lost his Bimbo elephant and his # 1 Bull Hand Kenny Rogers. Attached is a pic from their younger days. He now has only 1 elephant left from his Family's herd. Thanks Casey

From Paul Gutheil

 Howdy,
Thanks to Tim & Anthony this is my Christmas card for this year.
I always try to give credit on the back for the subject support. I have tried 6 different ways
to try to find out the names of these two ladies to no avail...and thanks to my #(%^*() computer
I have somehow lost Tim's email address...

Therefore, would you possibly know their names? I am deeply appreciative in advance for your
efforts.

Delighted to see what and why you did with Amy and Bello today. By the way Chic called a short while back,
made my week. Was so sorry I couldn't take him up on his dinner invitation, but got a rain check.

Homer Walton wrote on the back:

"6 of the 8 bulls in herd- 2 Africans on left "Nackatella" and "Uganda", then "Tommy", "Mysore", "Calcutta" and the other male tusker "Tony", January 11, 1959."

35 years later!

Elephants live a long time, this is "Mysore" at left (she's included in Diamond O picture #10 above) from a shot taken by Paul Gutheil at MSG in 1994.
Sometimes in reflection I wonder if I had ever presented a worse act before the American public.
Nothing comes to mind.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I've received five or six copies of this rat sheet from various Bloggers lately.
Hot topic.

We'll all assemble next door at Shannon's house for Thanksgiving dinner this afternoon, can't beat that.
Combined with a couple of good football games on TV.

To Dave Price

From John Herriott #1

Just returned from from the gathering at Beef Bradys, during which time Johnny mentioned that he and Mary Ruth had recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
I remember it well, late in 1954 Fred Logan and I left Hugo with six elephants to join King Bros. Circus and arrived the day after John and Burt Pettus had taken the shows elephants away  to play the Texas Shrine dates.
At that point I had never met John but as the show neared Ft. Worth he showed up on the lot and whisked away this beautiful young cowgirl.
The rest is History.

Great News!

Rather than use this Paul Gutheil Thanksgiving photo as intended I will take this opportunity to announce that my health has improved to a point where my wife and daughter have agreed to release me from House Arrest.
I have decided to make my reappearance at the local hot spot (Beef O'Bradys) at noon today. John Herriott and company are coming up from Sarasota, likewise Jim Elliott from Riverview while Chic and others say they will try to make it.
Anyone else in the area drop by and I'll buy you a beer!
