The chain snaking along the ground

is to keep the jacks in place

All the shows used "toe pins" in front of the stringer to hold the sections from creeping forward and collapsing. Finally some smart guy figured to use a chain from the frnt stringer locking in on the bottom of each jack along the way finally to the biggest back jack.It worked great and solved the problem of carrying extra stakes [toe pins] and could make it possible to set bseats up on concrete, asfalt and rock where they could not stake. I believe it was first used by Downie Bros., then on Mills when I was there and then adapted by BC. Years ago Chappie Fox and I went to Tony Dianos farm-quarters and bought the Biller Bros. seating for use on the MLWKE parade grounds. The stringers for the Blues had this adaption but the stringers for the bible back reserbves seats used toe pins. When I built the seating for my little tent circus I used this and it was great to set up on any surface.

Still in use on the Cole show today. No seat trucks on the sides. I didn't see the end seating.

I believe the new jacks & stringers

are of aluminum currently & the new

bibles are of a double thick ply as

required by new regulations & are

incredibly heavier
