From Paul Gutheil

I sent a note to Sigrid and family, but regretfully sent nothing to you, but thanks to Henry
I now attach this.

Henry: I haven't been to Bridgeport in some years, but if you particularly like cage acts, I would suggest the side.

Happy B'day Gunther, Sigrid and Mark, all within the last month.

I saw Dragon a few months ago in Mexico City, and would suggest the back track over the entrance. Cage act's of old came in the side of the arena instead of the back, and had the pyramid set to face front track, as well as the animals worked that direction. Exception being Jewel New and Wolfgamg Holtzmier who came in the side but worked to the long end track. Maybe a few others I don't recall at the moment. Ringling's cages are now set in the back and not in the center, and the act's play to the long end track. Alex's act will appear "backwards" as it is trained in the European style of animals in the front and pyramid/jumps in the back. He has great leap frog around the cage with a double lioness bounce that is quite good. When I was with Ringling with the white tigers we ran a chute from the end ring around to the back so the animal's could enter the back and face front track. When I returned to present GGW's tigers the came in the side as described above and all worked to the front track.

Correct Wade...Jewells lions were trained to come in from the back track side..At Circus World with the Theatre view the chutes from the beastwagons they lived in came straight into the cage..when we were in Quarters the lions had to learn to find the "hole" on the side...they picked it up after a few practices of only loading in a cat at a time so Jewell could redirect to it proper seat.

Gary,
Sending them in from the side is a great advantage, and offer's many different option's for an act and pyramid placement. With the "Hawthorn Erector Pyramid" it was impossible without turning the whole pyramid to face the end track. Didn't Jewel's pyramid face the end track, so the front seat's looked at it from the side?

NO Wade , we faced forward as at Circus World but the cats came in from the side..took a few practices for them to learn the new system..they were looking for their seats where they were used to them being since trained so it was an adjustment for them..about two months on the road and they were comfortable with no more problems..
