Arena Update #3

In a compromise worked out with the "Save the Historic Venice Circus Arena Foundation", current plans are to utilize a portion of the superstructure in a new open air public space on the site.

I think the whole area should be replaced by a J.C. Penny Outlet.
Had the half-witted citizenry not turned their backs on the show years ago, the new Ringling facility might be standing there today!

The deciding issue back then was

the condition of the track & the

very poorly negotiated agreement

with Seminole Gulf Railroad who

was able to walk away with funds

from the city & the county & not

do the track upgrade required to

allow the show trains access

Up in Ellenton they only have to

deal with CSX (Chessie System)

When CSX was facing massive cost

to upgrade & maintain the Venice

line (& South) they dumped it to

Seminole Gulf (Somalian Pirates)

I find it ironic to be writing

about trains as I just arrived in

DC on the overnight sleeper from

Tampa (The Silver Star) a name

Amtrak has borrowed from Seaboard

Airline Railway (long gone)

Very nice accomodations & a very

good pie car (meals included)

Great to avoid the TSA gestapo

Perhaps they could excavate much

of the area & create a tremendous

bikini mud wrestling pond which

wouldn't require much upkeep &

it could be named "Muddy Bros"

in keeping with tradition

I'll take 8 hours on AMTRAK any day from Tidewater to NYC v. 6 hours of airline and TSA hassle for about the same price. And I get off downtown, not across a river or in Islip.
