Do you recall the party at the Herriotts that had elephant people including Rex, Axel, Myself, Hugo Schmidt, You, Mary Ruth, Gee Gee and others. It was a great party and I recall all the elephant girls planted a kiss with lipstick on Herr Hugos bald head plus alot of fun until the wee hours of the morn. I guess Senor Buckles must have been somewhere. I can't recall. I recall Serge was to take Rex down to Caronas Hollywood Fla. home for Xmas eve the following day and that was a bdisaster. A great time vwas had by all. johnny

Axel was only 51 when he died in
a freak accident in Williston
John is referring to the winter of 1973-74 when he owned the John Ringling Herriott mansion just a stones throw from the Venice Winter quarters and hosted the best known and wildest party goers in the Sarasota/Manatee area.
I had arrived from Mexico in late Oct. to replace Hugo Schmitt with the Circus World elephants, leaving Barbara, Ben and "Anna May" behind to finish out the date in Mexico City.
I spent my days wrestling the Billy Smart elephants and evenings at the Herriott Estate being entertained by the cream of the area's circus society.
The event John refers to, was the first evening after my wife's arrival with Gaylord, Axel, Hugo, Rex, Gee Gee, Hub Hubbel and Pat Anthony to mention a few, in attendance..
For some reason Rex was wearing a hairpiece in those days and the highlight of the evening came when during his conversation with Barbara she said, "You know, your voice is familiar but I can't remember your name!
The place went ballistic!
Talk about feeling very...very... stupid.......I... was... only... married...to...Rex...for...11... long...long....years...HOW...COULD...ANYONE...FORGET...SO...MUCH...FUN....Barbara.....
