1932 - - two of the greatest flyers of all time on one show! Alfredo Codona (3rd from right) and Art Concello (3rd from left in white). I’m sure Steve Gossard can identify the others, one of whom would be Vera Bruce.
Note in the background the two trained sea lion cages, nos. 93 and 94.
On the right, the open door van is a giraffe wagon. But why would it be in the backyard? The answer is that one of the giraffes died in its wagon when the show was en route from Sarasota to NYC to open the 1932 season. Its wagon was used for props the rest of the year and rode the third section (ordinarily the giraffes were on the first section with the rest of the menagerie cages).
I hope we hear from STEVE. While we're at it, PAGING JACKIE LECLAIRE. This is my try at it: L to R - (I think) Mr. and Mrs. Bert Doss, Art and Antoinette Concello, the catcher (5th from L) I believe to be Big Joe Rimellette, unknown (to me) lady flyer, Abelardo (Lalo) Codona, Vera Bruce Codona, Alfredo Codona, another lady flyer unknown to me, and the gentleman at R looks like the famed single trap aerial contortionist, Albert Powell. Steve & Jackie, how'd I do?
For another excellent shot of RBB flying acts, check the 1936 photo with the Tuffy Genders Journal, in the Jan-Feb 2012 BANDWAGON.
