Jack's mother, also named Ethel, lived just 2 doors down from me on Crescent Way, in Thousand Oaks. She made notes of all my comings and goings and called up and tattled on me to Mabel Stark. For a long time, I couldn't figure out how Mabel could meet me at the crack of dawn with a sly smile and a running account of what I'd been doing. Once I found out it was Jack Joyce's mother, the whole thing became very amusing.

I believe that Jack also trained
the Zebra drill that Ethel Jennier
presented for a few years while
they were married
