Just love the looks of these costumes so many years ago. Some, quite simple, but with a statement. You get the impression with this photo that she knew exactly just what she was doing and was in command.
Lucia Zora's book, SAWDUST AND SOLITUDE, is a classic worth the search.
Brooks & Van Horn for some folks. Mabel Stark, Louis Roth and most of the Barnes show performers ordered from DeMoulin Bros. of Greenville, Illinois. Their stuff was not ready-to-wear. Fittings were required, and I have Mabel's list of sizes, plus four sets of her uniforms. They are exceptionally well-constructed, and made to endure hard usage. I have a letter from their historian telling of DeMoulin sending a master tailor to take the measurements of Tom Mix.

I guess that this style of costume
was readily available from uniform
companies like Brooks & Van Horn
& lent itself well as ready to wear

Hi Roger but I didn't really mean
"ready to wear" but standard styles
Brooks Uniforms in NY & Van Horn in
Philly were the leading suppliers
of their time & eventually became
Brooks Van Horn & are long gone
They built all of Don Foote's stuff
for many years (for Hagenbeck)
