Jungle Jim #8

15 years later, “Jungle Jim” Bradley is asked to lead an expedition to search for Joan Redmond, who is now the heiress to a fortune worth millions. Word has come of a white “lion goddess” living among the natives deep in the jungle, and it is believed that Joan, once believed lost, is that lion goddess. Jim declines the assignment, since he and has partner Malay Mike (Raymond Hatton) are about to start off on an expedition into gorilla country for the Smithsonian. He recommends instead his good friend Red Hallihan.

In the original newspaper comic strip, Jungle Jim’s adventures took place in Asia. The decision to transplant him to Africa appears to have been made so that lions could be incorporated into the plot. The African setting also allowed the film editors to make extensive use stock animal footage that had been filmed in Africa.

Eric: Would you have any idea if any of that stock footage is attributable to Martin & Osa Johnson?

Thanks, Paul

In Chapter 9, there is some airplane footage which might very well have been from one of their documentaries.
