Jungle Jim #1 (From Eric Beheim)

Released in January 1937, Jungle Jim was a 12 chapter serial based on a popular newspaper comic strip drawn by Alex Raymond (who had also created Flash Gordon.) The character of Jungle Jim also appeared on radio, in films and comic books, and on television. (Many of you probably remember the films and television episodes starring Johnny Weismuller as Jungle Jim, a role he assumed after hanging up his Tarzan loincloth.)

Johnny Weissmuller once referred to his Jungle Jim characterization as “Tarzan with clothes.”

Damoo Dhotre and his leopard Sonia appear in the opening scenes of the 1948 Jungle Jim series starring Weissmuller. It's one of those leopard attacks the native carrying the golden vial scenes that sets off the plot for the rest of the movie. At the start of the first film in the series, Sonia leaps from a tree onto Dhotre and the two then wrestle on the ground.
