That's Lord George Sanger, the Barnum of Britain. He anointed himself with his title after Buffalo Bill appeared in Britain as the "Honorable" Wm. F. Cody.

Buckles,
A question for you as this is what we call an elephant tub for sure.
Did they cut a wood barrel with metal straps in half plus reinforce the top for the weight.
Then the photo below is what today we think an elephnat tub looks like.
How long did they use the old style wood tub and the newer metal criss cross tub came in use what we see today.
Thanks

I don't recall ever seeing a wooden bull tub, in fact the last I ever heard of were those that came with the Adele Nelson elephants when Ben Davenport bought them.
Smokey said the outer bands were made of brass that Louie made him polish every day rain or shine.
They didn't last long tho, they were carried on top of the pole wagon and got busted up from the big top crew tossing them to the ground while unloading.
Smokey said Ben was so mad he replaced them with tubs made of double steel and said, "Now let's see you bastards try to break these!
