Sandwina, name derived from Flo Ziegfeld's Sandow ?

Ah yes, Born Katharina Brumbach in Vienna, she changed her name to Sandwina after defeating Eugene Sandow in a weightlifting contest.
According to Wikipedia she lifted 300lbs over her head, whereas Sandow only managed to get the weight up to his chest...and all this before the age of steroids.

Katie (or Kati) Sandwina's saga is well told in 2 articles in the March-April 2012 BANDWAGON. Read Jan Todd's "Center Ring: Katie Sandwina and the Construction of Celebrity", and "Kati (sic) Sandwina: Hercules Can Be a Lady", by John D. Fair.
