Helen was later hired by the Zoo as its first woman keeper and was instrumental in helping to establish the Zoo’s first animal nursery. In her book MY ZOO FAMILY, she describes her experiences serving as foster mother to lions, tigers, leopards, gorillas, deer and various other baby animals belonging to the Bronx Zoo.
