I well remember the old elephant barn as several of us fans toured in the early 1970's.
It was after new years and the hippo pen was on the right and all those very large elephants all lined up swaying back and forth.
The heater down at the other end was going full blast.
And the pugent elephant aroma was very thick.
We walked all over the quarters looking at all the old junked vehicles and barns not missing a one as bright eyed new circus fans it was Christmas for us.
D R and Isla's circus road trailer was still there.
Ah one trailer we opened was 4 foot deep in posters from the old Al G. Kelly and Miller Bros.
D. R. Miller said help your self and I about wet myself and we did.
After that we were invited to D. R.'s office that was a garage next to the large ranch style home.
And the great D. R. Miller stories started and damn I wish I had tape recorded them.
What a time was had listening to the Worlds greatest circus fan telling of his adventures down the circus trail.
I never laughed so much in my life.
The buying of the Ringling elephants and the advertising airplane adventure and many more.
Memories that I will never forget.
Harry in Texas
So it seems my reputation for those
snippy & snide comments has made it
possible for me to sit back & wait
for others to say them for me
Just 1 more of my senior benefits
One time I had to meet D. R. at Dulles Aprt and drive him to Richmond. I was waiting at the gate and wearing my C&B ball cap. A deplaning passenger looked at my hat and said there was a guy behind him wearing the same cap. Then he asked if the guy owned a circus because all the way from Dallas he was telling his seat mate circus stories!
On the trip down (between stories), he mentioned that people always ask why he wears the cap. "So that when they ask me, I can tell them all about my circus!".
A fine gentleman.
