This big guy died in November 2011 of "intestinal illness." He was reportedly around 14,000 pounds. Gary told me he was one of five males he brought over from Uganda for the park.

Yes the last one at Great Adventure. His name was Rip because of a tear in his left ear and you can see he had a stump for a tail..I am sure he survived some sort of an attack when he was very young..?

Gary & was it in Jackson NJ

My father spent a few of his last

years after his 3rd retirement in

the maintenance department there

& he became pals with Joe Bauer Sr

Chic, when we loaded out from Winter Quarter taking the herd to Circus World Showcase in Feb 74 after helping get the herd there I proceeded to NJ. I was there two weeks getting my passport in order and then was off to Uganda for 8 weeks as the Arab Oil Embargo made a two week trip stetch to two months..:)I stayed at GA until Jewell New asked me to come be his doorman with his Lion act and then I worked with Buckles again too..
