Here are some more frame enlargements taken from newsreel footage circa the late 1930s.

In the 1950s, my father used to watch Friday night boxing sponsored by Gillette. The show’s theme song was the "Look Sharp, Be Sharp March," which was later recorded by the Boston Pops Orchestra and published in an arrangement for marching band. (Bill Pruyn programmed it for the abbreviated 1969 Blue Unit tour, probably for a comedy boxing routine.) Those of you who remember this march probably also remember the lyrics:

"To look sharp every time you shave,
To feel sharp and be on the ball,
To be sharp, use Gillette Blue Blades,
It's the quickest, slickest shave of all!"
