It was the first time I saw the Woodcock Elephants and Barbara perform. (Little did I suspect that when I encountered the Woodcock Family Elephants again, it would be in 1978 in San Diego on the Ringling Blue Unit, and that I would be playing in the band.) As I recall, it was bitter cold that day. After the performance, as I was walking back to Cleveland’s Union Station to catch a rapid transit trolley for home, I walked passed a bookstore located on Cleveland's Public Square. In the display window was a copy of PICTORIAL HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN CIRCUS by John and Alice Durant. It was the store’s only copy, but it was so cold, that the owner wouldn’t open the display window to get it out for me. (He did put a hold on it, and I picked it up a few days later.) |
