Shown warming up back stage is this unusual act, which uses metal discs that give off musical tones of different pitches when spun.

Is this a version of the instrument that Ben Franklin invented?

Ben Franklin’s instrument used glass bowls, which gave off different musical pitches when rubbed.

ERIC: I have seen this act once before, but am still unsure exactly how the discs are worked. Are they in some way thrown down, or spun to produce the sounds? It's an amazing effect, a step up the ladder, in my opinion, from the xylophone of Mr. Mistin, Jr.
