Close Encounters #3

Clyde Beatty (Darkest Africa, 1935)
(When the script called for Clyde to wrestle a tiger, the studio hired a 500-pound wrestling tiger trained by Louis Roth. Clyde didn’t practice with the tiger before hand, and their first encounter didn’t occur until they were on the set and the director yelled, “Action.” With the cameras rolling, the tiger forgot it was supposed to be acting and gave Clyde a few bad moments until someone thought to rattle its cage door. Distracted, it released Clyde and trotted back to its cage. Clyde declined to do any retakes with the tiger.)
