I have been unable to expand the size of these photos--so I can't see who this is on the horse--but Mabel Stark did this act for John Ringling, who kept her on a ten-year contract even when he 86'd wild animal acts in 1925. He even sent her to Bertram Mills with it, to play the Olympia. Years before, on the Barnes show, she ascended on a platform with a lion, with fireworks going off around the edges. One time, some rigging hit Mabel's head, causing her to bleed. The props boys saw it, and lowered the platform, with the lion licking up Mabel's blood all the way down, after which he bounded harmlessly into his cage.

The original designs for "Barnum"
by David Mitchell called for the
flying horse Jupiter to ascend from
a central trap move downstage & fly
to the St James upper balcony with
Barnum & Jenny Lind astride
After the late great Pete Feller Sr
as technical supervisor brought in
a structural engineer to determine
the requirements it was decided to
scrap the whole idea due to cost
When the press asked about sequence
that had previously been hyped the
shows press agent (that will remain
nameless) said that the insurance
provider nixed the whole shebang

OH--it says "Wotan". I read it as "Woman". So...this is Ms. Wotan, somebody?
