From Paul Gutheil

For over 25 years Diane and I spent a day or two at Augustus St Gaudens
beautiful summer home, now a Nat'l Historic site, in Cornish, NH.
St Gaudens also was noted for the Shaw Civil War Memorial and The Farragut
Memorial, as well as designing the gold Double Eagle coin among others.
There are many interesting things to see at this site, including a life
cast of Lincoln's face and hand. Attached is a photo Diane took of me in
his studio with
one of his first, perhaps the first model for Diana. It's a great place
with beautiful views and I recommend it highly.
I might also mention that it is a short hop skip and a jump from the
Cornish Bridge over the CT River betwen VT and NH. It is the longest
covered bridge
in the USA. Also, right across the river is the Maxfield Parrish Museum
for those who know of his art.

Oh these senior moments (DAMN),
St Gaudens is even better noted for his Sherman Monument in Central Park South in NYC which was regilded several years ago and was absolutely stunning. Hope to find a pic.

Funny your mentioning Maxfield Parrish. The other day I commented on the original Knickerbocker Hotel at 42nd and Broadway. They had this great mural in the bar by Parrish showing Old King Cole. When the Knick closed as a hotel the mural was moved to the St. Regis Hotel where it may still be seen over drinks.

Free trivia here.

Dave, Dave, Dave..you and Chic...
God Bless you.

Diane and I went to the wedding of a friend of hers years ago and the reception was in the penthouse of the St Regis. No wonder I enjoyed that belt in the bar so much before and after.

By the by my Grandmother had, copies to be sure, of Dinky Bird and Air Castles hanging in the hallway.

Another copy of Dinky Bird is on the wall right in front of me as I type. Yes, we love Maxfield.

Chic and Paul: It WILL vanish after we're gone. Kids today don't understand. You saw Erik refer to 76 as a "ripe old age."

A lady at church this morning (my generation still goes to church) commented that she knew someone who had known me as a little boy.

I asked, "What old man are we talking about?"
