As a followup to the endless Garden collection This hotel on 48th Street between 8th & 9th was the primary residence of many performers during the lengthy NY runs of the show & some of the tales told of hijinx & mayhem are legend The Belvedere has been highline restored & remains a favorite for a few of the "seasoned" Surely there are folks among us that remember |

Me and Dave Mullaney flopped there for a while in '57.
Returned one day to find someone had boosted my electric razor.
Thought you were protecting our
freedom in 57
1957 was a busy year.
RBBB in the Spring, Paul Kelly elephants with Garden Bros. in Canada during the Summer and Korea in the Fall.
Sandy and I had breakfast there one morning with Lou Jacobs and Mark Anthony. The pancake batter got stuck in the spout of the pouring device the waitress was using at the griddle so she stuck the spout in her mouth, blew hard to clear the blockage and continued pouring. I changed my order to eggs.

Bob: You're too picky. Don't get any candy apples as they were made in the same copper pot that the guy shaved in that morning. Or worse.
If I remember correctly and I am sure I don't, the last time I stayed there in 1964 playing Ringling at the Garden just across the street, I paid a whoping $21 a week. Most of the apartments had two double beds, a bath and a galley kitchen. Practically all the performers except the rooming house group some acts that wanted more of a regular apt look, stayed at the Belvedere. If you remember the main entrance was on 48th St. and the bar and back doors were on 49th, almost directly across from the Garden stage door entrance. We all got special identification cards for the NY engagement. I stayed there on several occassions. Oh if those wallls could only talk, what adventures they!!!! Love, Jackie LeClaire
