A soldier with a month or less remaining on his tour of duty was called a "short timer" and when asked about going any place he would smugly reply, "I don't know, I'm pretty short and might miss my flight home". On the other hand if a replacement started talking about short time he would hear, "Short?.....you still got the state side toilet ring on your ass!" Or "You got more time to pull than Syng Man Rhea!"
