Less glamorous, I remember when I was a kid growing up in Philadelphia, the trash was collected in the neighborhoods in large metal bins on wagons pulled by draft horses. These bins were put on a larger motorized truck that went from neighborhood to neighborhood, At the end of "trash day" a crew came around the streets to clean up after the horses. Bob
