If you'll allow an outsider to comment here (grin)... If you say these pictures are from 1988, then the trucks had probably been repainted a couple of times by then, but the designs were originally done (in 1982 if I am remembering correctly) by Bobby Rawls, David's brother and the second son of Harry and Mary. We were on the Beatty-Cole show with he and his wife and I actually hung out in the barn in Deland sometimes with Bobby while he was painting over the winter before the show went out.
