Gil Gray remains among my favorite shows. Mr. Gray had an atmosphere around his performance that signalled excellence in all respects. I saw this act, and met Johnny Herriott at the Katy Ball Park lot, at 3rd & Webster, in Waco, Texas, in 1957. This background is a little fuzzy, but to Johnny's left, it looks like the stars between the poles adorn the web number. I recall vividly the flying act, starring Willie Robin, worked at 40 feet, and really looked like something. When the Ringling indoor frames cut the acts to 30 feet, aerial acts lost impact for this jaded viewer. Never was impact lost around a master showman in the person of Gil Gray.
