This is a view I wish I had seen earlier to include in yesterday’s series as it shows, on the left along Norman Avenue, the repair shops and at the opposite end adjoining, the larger animal house. The animal house was slightly wider than the repair shops so it is probably what we see in the distance. It was an addition made about 1889-90.
The partially seen building on the right edge was built either when the Barnum show was in Europe or very shortly thereafter and before the Ringling’s bought the show (and with it, the lease of the winter quarters land from the Barnum estate, then good for another 20 years).
Dr. Turner was the show’s vet and somewhat of a circus fan. Later in life he lived in eastern Pennsylvania and I knew some fans who remembered him. More than likely, he had a room for the winter in the decorative Victorian house from which this view was taken.
By the way, for viewers, somehow both the text and images for yesterday's posting numbers 3 and 5 got mixed up and should be switched for the narrative to read properly.
Thanks, Buckles, for adding this and the other photos. Dick Flint Baltimore
