This was posted on the Blog back in 2006. Darlene identified them as the following:
"On the left side were "Betty Boop", "Tusko", "Judy", "Katie" and "Lottie'. Eva Willians on the center elephant "Joe" and on the right side "Reed" (ridden by Darlene), "Hattie", "Gardner", "Gypsy" and "McLain".
The 1978 Circus Report elephant census states Gyp, Kate and Betty were all at the Bronx Zoo, with an annotation aside Gyp's name that she was sold to Vargas. Chip Arthur told me Kate and Betty were acquired from the zoo in Mesquite, Texas. Eva Williams told me Betty was originally sent to Rex from Derrick Rosaire Sr. for training and returned, Rex purchasing her later. From the Boss Historian and the gentleman who ended up with both of them, can anyone tell me more about the origins of Kate and Booper?
I'm assuming Rex was at the Bronx Zoo during this time frame ( judging by Gyp's mention there ). Can anyone expand on this scenario?
