1963 and 1964 were my 2nd and 3rd years taking circus photos. Here is a little bit of misc. stuff from some of the shows that played S. E. New England those two summers. |

Must have been quite a chore hanging those heavy bull tubs up on the back doors!
I bought this trailer from Johnny Pugh, many years ago. It now sits at Circus Pages wq's, used as a storage.
Wonder if the girls put those up there before they got in the truck?

Nice pictures Jim, I grew up with all of these shows. Living down here in South Carolina I only got to see Mills Bros once though and my Dad & I had to drive up to North Carolina to catch it.
Thanks for the memories, Jim! Growing up at the same time as you near Springfield, Mass., I caught these shows as well. I remember catching 8 shows in 4 states in 1963, the year before I had my driver's license, thanks to my parents. I'd convince my Dad to take a business trip to Vermont or my Mom to visit her cousin in New York state and leave me on a show lot on their way for the day! Others were not so far away.

Eddie Dullem told me he lettered the Beatty show in those years. I know he did the banners, and did them well.
Clown Eddie Dullem lettered the Beatty Cole trucks for the 1964 season only. Prior to that (up to 1963) it was a well known show painter whom I believe was "Yellow Burnette" He had done some work for the Cole show and also for King Bros. From 1965, until about 1981 Roger Boyde did the lettering.
I believe Joe Galasso painted the
show just before Roger arrived
Roger & his son also had a private
sign shop in Valdosta Georgia
PS Joe's son Tripoli became a show
painter on Dark & Fun ride trucks
for Theo Zacchini's shop in Sarasota
