This fine elephant is used at the Chiang Mai Zoo, Chiang Mai, Thailand, to entice visitors to buy bananas for its snacking pleasure. The attendant didn't understand me when I asked about the rubber coverings on its admirable tusks. A good guess would be to prevent anymore rubbing damage.
