Cole Bros Clown c.1936 This lithograph was a workhorse for Cole Bros during the late 1930s and early 1940s. This poster shows a white-face clown, more grotesque than realistic, and a ... bold rendition of the Cole Bros title. Anyone seeing this poster in a store window would know that the circus was coming to town. Note the contrast between the whiteface clown and the navy blue background which makes the central image pop out of the poster.
