This is the male white rhino Tsavo. He came to Krone around 2009. Before that he had been with Circus Barum and, I think, Circus Charles Knie.

He is said to have been born in Burgers Zoo, Netherlands around 1977. That makes him about 35 years old – possibly a longevity record for a circus rhino. It certainly surpasses the record for a circus rhino in USA

He arrived in Circus Barum in 1978, a year before I started there and he was 3 years old at that time. The trainer was Charles Knie who later owned his own Circus. He sold his show about 4 years ago and lives know in Australia. Best natured and trained rhino I have ever seen in a Circus, and I have seen a few. It was a popular thing when I grew up to have a rhino on the show.

I thought you were still with RBBB

in 79 & 80 Henry but clearly not so

Henry,

Many thanks for the details concerning Tsavo. I think he found the perfect home for his golden years.

We will see if he reaches the longevity record set by Zeila a female rhino who died on February 24th 2006 at the Circus Knie winterquarters in Switzerland. She was 43 y.o.

Hi Chic,79 & 80 I worked in Circus Barum, had 10 Elephants and a act with 3 Camels and 3 Horses. 80 & 81 I was back in Ringling to work the Leopard act and then I went to Tihany in Brazil with the act and also worked the Elephants there.

Thanks Henry I was mostly with the

Monte Carlo tour in 79 & 80 so I

wasn't paying much attention to the

Red Show that was self sufficient

& only on Blue for a few problems

Hope things are stable with you

Henry,
Can you tell us who the elephants were on Tihany while you were there?
